Cris & I,  Were invited to help TD at
the K-12 Nationals in Houston,
Texas. It was a Great Time!
This is GM Gilberto Hernandez a Good friend of the Family and Head Coach of the
University of Texas at Brownsville/ Southmost College Chess Team. GM Hernandez
conducted a simul at the K-12 Nationals.
Danny & Andy with GM Susan Polgar. Susan was attending the K-12
Nationals with her two boys Tommy and Leeam both real good friends of
Danny & Andy.  Susan is now the Head Coach of the Texas Tech Red
Raiders Chess Team, and Director of S.P.I.C.E.(The Susan Polgar Institute of
Chess Excellence) at Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas. It was really nice visiting
with her again.
Andy & Danny got to meet GM Hikaru Nakamura one of the youngest
Grandmasters. He just turned 20. Congratulations! and Happy Birthday!

The Girl's Arrive at Texas Tech University to compete in the 5th
Annual Susan Polgar National Invitational Chess Championship.
Angel Bohannon, Sarah Garza, and Georgia Olvera were selected
to participate from the South Texas Chess Center.
The Girl's before the Opening Ceremonies. No sign of nerves yet!
The Opening ceremonies were attended by University Officials and
several Local Dignitaries. The National Anthem was sung by the
Cactus Cuties from Lubbock, Texas they have appeared on several
kid Television programs including " Cory in the House".

The Girl's were each presented the exclusive Polgar Chess Medal during the opening ceremony. The
Honor of being selected to attend this prestigious event was the sign of a Champion. All the girl's received
the medal and were recognized as champions. The 5th Annual Susan Polgar National Invitational
drew
approx. 52 girl's from around the country representing their states. This event will be held in Lubbock,
Texas at Texas Tech University for the Next 10 years. The girl's were housed in Campus dormitories and
dined at the "Fresh Plate" dining facility . They experienced "college life "for an entire week. Texas Tech
University and S.P.I.C.E. ( Susan Polgar Institute for Chess Excellence) sponsored the event and provided
the players and families with the best accomodations Texas Tech can provide.

Rock wall climbing was one of the recreation that was provided free of charge
at the University Recreation center.
The Girl's also, met" MISS LUBBOCK USA" who will be going on to compete in the MISS
TEXAS Pagent later this year.
The Trip would not be complete without a side trip to
ROSWELL, NM.  Home of the UFO Museum and other "out
of this world sites"  Even the McDonald's is shaped like a
flying saucer. REALLY!!!!
        I TOLD YOU!!!!
The UFO Museum is a must see when in ROSWELL,
NM.  They have a lot of interesting reports and
docments about the "Roswell Incident" and other
phenomena. The boys enjoyed the museum.
